  1. 1. What do you think about VCL mode?

    • It is very important for me and I plan to deploy my uniGUI application for both desktop and the web.

    • It is important for me, but I can live without it.

    • It is only good for testing and debugging purpose.

    • I develop pure web applications. VCL mode is only important in design mode.

I develop pure web applications. VCL mode is only important in design mode.

I think the concepts for developing desktop and web development are very different and to keep this architecture with uniGUI can limit the progress of the framework to explore the full potential of ExtJS.

This is my opinion.

I totally agree !!!

Also for simple desktop application I'm using unigui web development.

Time Is Money, spend it well.

My opinion is that there are more important tasks :

ExtJS 4 and Touch 2

Best Regards.

What about making a convert tool?

WEB TO VCL.

You may forget VCL develop and apply all your effort in WEB MODE, but if we could have a tool for converting from web mode to VCL mode, then the same unigui code can be used with a fast convertion web to vcl, and our customer can select between a REAL VCL mode and UNIGUI WEB MODE.

Of course, VCL mode is important. It let us avoid repeating work when necessary. Maybe it waste Farshad Mohajeri's time, but it really give us facility. I remember that you spend only 20% time on VCL, maybe you are busy and so tired because you always work by yourself and this case lasts for long time, but when you have earned much money, you will be satisfied and you will get more drive and engage the other developpers.

On the other hand, Web mode responds too slowly if there are many components. So we can also use the VCL application directly connect to the remote server, and it works perfectly.

In the same time, your project name is "uni-gui", why not insist on it? And what's your core merit comparing to Raudus?

In the end, I really thank to your great work! Go on!

I feel that trying to reach feature parity beween web and native clients may necessitate some compromises that could restrict the possibilities of either side of the framework.

Clearly by using the VCL as design framework, you save time because you do not need to build your own design framework. But this comes at the cost of having to maintain the feature parity which is an added complexity of the framework.

What I need is a web framework. If I want to build a native client, I think that I will prefer to use a native component set that offers more advanced features that what is possible in a web framework because of the natural restrictions that the browser contains, in terms of features and security concerns.

In an imaginary perfect world where development is easy and quick, I want a designer that works as a browser, with the abilities to adjust content, so you get a result at design time that imitates what you see in the browser. What you see is what you get, in essence. In the real world that is surely unrealistic, and using the native designer gets you up and running quicker, but has the mentioned drawbacks.

One constraint of the current framework that I sometimes would like worked differently, is the highly form oriented nature of the framework. It works hard to imitate native forms. It is my opinion, that users of web sites are more accustomed to a page-oriented way of presenting things. In a sence I kind of prefer the style of Intraweb, in this regard. The problem with that framework obviously is that the components are more awful than you would have thought possible and look absolutely terrible, which is one of the reasons that we have uniGUI in the first place.

TL;DR - I want intraweb with Ext controls. :D

My attraction to unigui is the common nature of the two interfaces. I support and continue to develop a pos/business system that runs on standard computers. The intention is to make the process "mobile on pads" so the staff can work with clients directly on the sales floor. The cost of training new staff is very much a driving factor in this environment and so having a common interface has a very strong appeal. Because there is no hardware "lock in" for the standard terminals one of the new system design criteria is "no hardware lock in" for the "pads." (Yes. I know.) They don't want two systems. I don't want to create/maintain two systems. UniGui!

Pure web application development with ExtJS 4 & Sencha Touch support is priority for many of us. For me, uniGUI is superior product because of perfect Delphi integration, not for possibility of hybrid development/deployment. Nevertheless, VCL mode may be useful for some projects and is not useless in general.

VCL Mode is essential for the future roadmap of my Company : we absolutely need to deploy the same applications on Windows (.exe) AND Internet, due to the different profiles of our customers. IMHO, VCL Mode is the only reason why we plan to use unigui in an intensive way.
