How does the security work?

Hi:

 

Let's say I want to deploy the app in IIS. How does the security work? A normal asp.net app uses role based security. Is that supported? Also, is server side aware of the authenticated user?

 

If you can point me to some articles that would be perfect. I also want to know more about how exactly the separation between the client (running in the browser) and the server works. From a security point of view, can you secure requests that return sensitive data such that only users with specific roles can execute them?
