Well it seems at least one person wanted to browse server files. The reason for the impossibility of browsing the client side file system is that it is a browser technology limitation. It is not something specific to uniGUI in any way. It would be a major major security vulnerability if server code could access client files, so html/javascript simply doesn't allow it.
